16 years old...murdered by the greek state
On Saturday 6th of December, around 10pm, a police car was
patrolling in a central district of Athens, Greece. After a verbal
conflict with a group of young people, the two policemen driving the
car left, only to come back a few minutes later...
The two policemen got out of the car and returned to the place,
where one of them pulled out his gun and shot, in cold blood, a
16-year old boy. The victim was taken to hospital where he was
announced dead. According to eye-witnesses the policemen were in no
instance attacked or physically threatened. This murder is another
incident in a long series of police brutalities against student
protests, immigrants and other demonstrators for civil rights.
Immediately after the incident, thousands of people all over Greece
went out in the streets to protest. Greek police confronted the
protesters with extreme violence. Many ended up in hospitals injured
by plastic bullets or seriously beaten, and others were arrested. The
amount of teargas thrown by the police was enormous and as a result
respiratory problems were caused to hundreds of people. Media once
again try to misguide and manipulate the public by focusing on the
material damages caused by the riots rather than the authoritarian
state.
The murder of the 16 year old came to top a series of political
scandals and authority abuse. The Greek government is unable to
respond to a situation that their own acts lead them to. Instead of
taking their own responsibilities, they have once again unleashed the
police forces. The long time suppression by the current and previous
governments has to get to an end.

*We resist and confront all kinds of authoritarian
suppression by supporting and showing solidarity to
demonstrations in Greece and elsewhere.
